If you ever needed to see elitism on display in the press (and honestly, who really needs to see that), just peer into the reactions at CNN this weekend. After a week of mirror-borne mewling over having White House access revoked, things turned more dramatic for the network.
Horror of horrors – the reporters from CNN found after losing press pool duties it also was not going to be included on the Air Force One flights this weekend! Imagine the impact this had on the correspondents…they would not be able to attend a college football game with the president and his advisers.

You would think a lack of detailed coverage of this visit to a stadium would impact our democracy, based on the reactions. But more than the overhyped nature of not being able to deliver the pertinent details of what the president consumed while in a skybox at the Tennessee-Texas football game, you get the delivery of our national security crumbling in real time.
Brian Stelter, as expected, has been all over this development for the past week. Also, as expected, he has done so in an amusingly oblivious fashion. Regarding the moves by the White House to bar CNN and others from the building, he has been in high drama.
Stelter actually operates from the position that only his network, and select others, are the true arbiters of what is considered journalism. Anyone else delivering information does not count. Just ignore the fact they choose to ignore the news they claim is not being covered.
Note what we saw the past week, when the screeching over CNN being barred consisted of how vital it was to report on the president and the White House. As this boast was being made, the other major networks, in a sign of solidarity, refused to cover the president and the White House. It was all performative nonsense, proven by what they were saying being dispelled by what they were doing.
Stelter made the farcical claim that the last thing the press wants to do is make themselves the story. He said this on Saturday, after a week of the press becoming incapable of reporting on much else apart from how all of this was affecting them.

Then we had Brian truly exposing his position that CNN is the only acceptable standard of journalism dissemination. When the news came out that CNN would be losing out on its AF-1 frequent flyer miles this weekend Stelter bemoaned the concept that nobody would have access to the details of President Trump‘s trip.

But it was just that – a concept. Because, despite the maudlin reaction from Stelter about losing seats as the president kited off to Knoxville, there was press coverage. In place of CNN’s slot in covering the president, Real America’s Voice was taking on the role of providing press pool responsibilities.
And Brian’s lie here becomes even worse. As you are about to see a new wrinkle in this melodrama, factor in the claims being made about the importance of the press covering the president. Now, with that in mind, take in what the folks from RAV said about their pool coverage.

This completely renders these verbal histrionics heard in the media this past week. Right in line with other networks refusing to provide pool coverage, here they have one network stepping up to make available the very content they are mourning as dead. Yet the other networks were spurning the reports because they came from a disapproved source.
This exposes what is really behind all of the carping concerning the moves to bar select outlets from the White House and the official pool. If it is not the mainstay news providers, then those same providers will simply turn their backs on any other coverage. They will take their boom mics and go home.
Which is their choice, if they want to behave in that manner. But don’t then turn around and claim there is no other way for the public to glean this vital information. CNN, and many others plying their trade in journalism, seem to think that if they elect to forgo the news, then the news is no longer accessible.
Newsflash: We have the ability to go elsewhere to see what is claimed to be shielded by their obstinate, arms-crossed anti-journalism.
