Fox News host Brian Kilmeade drew praise from prominent conservatives after a heated on-air clash with Fox & Friends Weekend co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy over President Donald Trump’s dealings with Russia and for his warning that working with Vladimir Putin would be the “biggest mistake” of Trump’s administration.
The exchange erupted Sunday as Campos-Duffy defended Trump’s growing frustration with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his decision to buy Russian diesel, placing two sharply different strands of Trump-aligned conservatism side by side on-air.
Campos-Duffy argued that Zelensky had continued attacking Russian refineries despite Trump urging him to stop, telling Kilmeade that Ukraine was “dependent on us.”
Kilmeade pushed back sharply, arguing: “There’s one person who’s responsible. Vladimir Putin – that is it. And he’s getting his a** kicked!”
When Campos-Duffy argued Trump was now working with Moscow because “Zelenskyy is so arrogant,” Kilmeade issued his starkest warning.
“It would be the biggest mistake of his administration to work with Russia. That is the modern Hitler of our generation,” he said.
The clip quickly went viral and drew applause from conservatives and Republicans who have been increasingly uneasy with Trump’s approach to Moscow.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) reposted Kilmeade’s remarks with a simple message: “Bravo @kilmeade.”
Trump’s own former Vice President Mike Pence called the exchange an example of “Moral and Strategic Clarity,” adding: “Thank You Brian Kilmeade.”

Others quickly chimed in:
Excellent, and very timely book, by one of America’s best cable news journalists. Loved what he says here about Putin/Ukraine. Typically ballsy @kilmeade – and spot on.

The clash also comes as Trump faces mounting Republican criticism over his agreement to purchase Russian diesel, a move some GOP lawmakers argue weakens sanctions pressure on Moscow as Putin’s war in Ukraine drags on. Several senators have urged Trump to reverse course.
Kilmeade also rejected Campos-Duffy’s argument that Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy infrastructure were prolonging the conflict.
“Can you blame him?” Kilmeade asked, pointing to Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. When Campos-Duffy said Trump wanted peace, Kilmeade shot back: “Tell Vladimir Putin!”
