Balgarianovinite.com The Culturama Festival will return to Heraclea Sintica for a fifth consecutive year, Historical Museum in Petrich Director Katya Stoyanova told BTA on Wednesday. The three-night programme will bring concerts to the ancient city from June 26 to 28.
Stoyanova said the initiative is becoming a fixture in the region’s cultural calendar and keeps building on what has been achieved in previous years. Culturama started as a series of free events under projects by Petrich Municipality, and is now developing as an independent festival with its own funding and an expanded programme.
This year, all events will take place on the grounds of the ancient city and will include three festival evenings with three special concerts combining different musical styles and artistic approaches. The main aim remains to promote the archaeological site not only as a place of major scientific discoveries, but also as a space for cultural exchange and experience.
The festival is organized with support from Petrich Municipality and the Historical Museum in Petrich, in partnership with the Culturama Foundation and opera singer Ina Kancheva. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to develop the site’s cultural programme and prepare for future events, including the autumn arts celebrations.
The programme begins on June 26 with the concert Waters of March by Miroslava Katsarova and Miroslav Turiyski. The two artists present a refined music project inspired by Antonio Carlos Jobim’s composition of the same name, featuring interpretations of songs in several languages, as well as original works. The concert combines music and storytelling, giving the audience a chance to immerse itself in the history and meaning of the works.
Solar Trio will take the stage on June 27, with Antoni Donchev on piano, Kalina Andreeva on double bass and Stefan Goranov on percussion. The formation presents contemporary jazz with elements of Bulgarian musical tradition, combining improvisation and chamber sensitivity.
The festival will close on June 28 with Bach & Beyond by Francesco Tristano, an internationally acclaimed artist who combines classical and electronic music in innovative stage formats and draws audiences around the world.
Stoyanova said interest in the events grows every year and attracts visitors from Petrich and the region, as well as from across the country. A ticket for each festival evening costs EUR 10 and includes admission to the concert and a complimentary glass of wine from a local winery, as well as a special issue of Kultura magazine, which adds to the overall cultural experience.
“Our aim is for Heraclea Sintica to become established not only as an archaeological site of national importance, but also as a living place for culture and art,” Stoyanova said.
