Balgarianovinite.com Caretaker Deputy Energy Minister Teodora Georgieva discussed with Denmark’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Flemming Stender and representatives of the European Energy company the development of investments in renewable energy sources, the Energy Ministry said on Saturday.
During the meeting, Georgieva underlined that for the successful implementation of such projects it is necessary for investors to build trust and gain the support of local communities. According to her, this is a key factor for sustainable development in line with the public interest.
The Ministry noted that European Energy is among the significant investors in renewable energy in Bulgaria, developing projects in the fields of solar and wind energy, energy storage, hydrogen, and carbon capture and storage in 25 countries.
In Bulgaria, the company is implementing wind farm projects in the municipalities of General Toshevo and Kosharitsa with a total capacity of 1 gigawatt. Despite their scale, they are facing difficulties mainly related to the attitudes of local communities, the press release reads.
The Energy Ministry supports investments of this scale, which contribute to economic and social growth, Georgieva stressed. She expressed the Ministry’s readiness to assist the company, if necessary, in its contacts with other institutions.
The talks also covered the possibilities for concluding long-term power purchase agreements, the capacity of the electricity transmission network, as well as licensing and permitting procedures.
The Ministry will make efforts to support the projects within its competence, the press release said.
