Balgarianovinite.com The activities, future development, and closer cooperation between the administration of the Zographou Monastery on Mt. Athos (Zographou Eforia), Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other relevant institutions were discussed during a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Ivanka Tasheva and a delegation from the monastery’s Board of Directors, the ministry said on its website on Tuesday.
During the meeting, participants highlighted the Eforia’s role in maintaining the relationship between the Bulgarian state and Zographou Monastery, as well as its contribution to preserving Bulgaria’s cultural and historical heritage on Mount Athos.
Tasheva emphasized the need to strengthen dialogue with the Eforia through more frequent working meetings and closer coordination with the relevant institutions to identify practical solutions to outstanding issues. She also reaffirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ readiness to continue providing support within its areas of responsibility and thanked the Eforia’s representatives for their dedicated work, noting that they have made this mission a personal cause to which they are deeply committed.
The Eforia delegation expressed confidence that close cooperation would make it possible to implement important initiatives benefiting the Zographou Monastery and the preservation of Bulgaria’s spiritual heritage on Mount Athos.
The Zographou Eforia was founded in 1926 by Tsar Boris III to administer the properties in Bulgaria associated with Zographou Monastery. Income generated from these properties supports the Bulgarian Orthodox monastery on Mount Athos. The Eforia operates under the Foreign Affairs Ministry and is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
