Balgarianovinite.com Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investments and Industry Alexander Poulev Wednesday visited Vidin, where he held meetings with Regional Governor Ognyan Asenov and Vidin Mayor Tsvetan Tsenkov. The discussions focused on key investment projects, infrastructure development and the economic revival of Northwestern Bulgaria, the press office of Poulev’s Ministry said.
Poulev said that the 2027 state budget would include all necessary instruments for regional growth, backed by clear financial justification and specific forms of support. He noted that Vidin’s strategic location should be turned into a real economic advantage, with emphasis placed on transport connectivity and intermodal transport. Poulev also presented work on a completely new draft law on public-private partnerships aimed at enabling the transparent mobilization of private capital for infrastructure modernization.
A working meeting between Poulev, Deputy Minister Mihaela Karadimova, Regional Governor Ognyan Asenov and Deputy Regional Governor Prolet Georgieva-Nikolova addressed key issues related to regional development, energy security and measures to accelerate transport connectivity, the Vidin Regional Administration press office said. Asenov highlighted the importance of infrastructure assets such as the Danube Bridge 2, the construction of the Vidin–Botevgrad expressway and industrial zones. Poulev confirmed that industrial zones remain a key driver of the country’s economic transformation.
During a meeting with Tsenkov, discussions focused on opportunities to promote investment and develop the local economy. Deputy mayors Borislava Borisova, Desislava Todorova and Rumen Lilov, Vidin Municipality Secretary Tihomir Stanchev and Regional Governor Asenov also took part in the discussion. Tsenkov presented strategic projects, including the development of mineral springs in Vidin, Slanotran and Gradets, as well as an initiative to build a modern university complex and an international high-tech centre on the site of the former military unit near the Baba Vida Fortress.
Poulev announced preparations for a special fund to support municipal investment projects and invited Tsenkov to join the government and business delegation that will visit Beijing and Vietnam in September to promote economic cooperation. The mayor said there was strong investor interest from Chinese companies in the region.
At the end of the visit, Tsenkov and Poulev toured the Vidin South Industrial Park, which is being developed with European funding on the site of the former Vidachim industrial complex. Participants in the meetings agreed that the sustainable development of the region requires consistent state policy and close coordination between central government, regional authorities and local government.
In June, the municipality also put into operation the renovated аccess road to the Vidin South Industrial Park — a local lane of national road I-1. The reconstruction, worth EUR 1.761 million including VAT, was successfully completed under Bulgaria’s Recovery and Resilience Plan.
