Balgarianovinite.com Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investment and Industry Alexander Poulev outlined the priorities for Bulgaria’s Trade and Economic Affairs Offices abroad during their annual meeting in Sofia on Thursday, the Ministry of Economy, Investment and Industry said in a press release.
Addressing the heads of the trade offices, Poulev said Bulgaria must continue supporting domestic businesses and do everything possible to integrate Bulgarian companies into regional and global supply and value chains.
He presented the government’s priorities in the fields of investment, industrial development and economic diplomacy.
Poulev also briefed participants on the main objectives of the government’s programme and the reforms already underway, including public administration reform, amendments to the Investment Promotion Act, and the establishment of an Investment Promotion Coordination Council under the Council of Ministers.
Poulev said Bulgaria has a genuine opportunity to capitalize on the favourable international environment for attracting new investment. “Investment has been elevated to the status of a national priority and is at the core of the government’s programme,” he said.
According to Poulev, interest from companies across Europe, Asia and the Middle East has been increasing. The ministry, working in coordination with Bulgaria’s Trade and Economic Affairs Offices abroad, will focus on attracting new international and strategic partnerships and turning them into concrete investment and industrial projects, he said.
Poulev described economic diplomacy as a key instrument for expanding the international presence of Bulgarian businesses. “We are strengthening dialogue with our international strategic partners and accelerating the signing of various memoranda that, until now, have been gathering dust as draft documents in drawers,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the economic dimension of foreign policy as one of the government’s key priorities. He stressed that economic and foreign policy should go hand in hand, with strategic partnerships, investment initiatives and international economic dialogue coordinated from the outset. He placed particular emphasis on the role of Bulgaria’s Trade and Economic Affairs Offices, describing them as a vital instrument for attracting investment and developing international economic partnerships.
Identifying new market opportunities, building strong partnerships and supporting Bulgarian companies in entering and expanding in both new and traditional markets were also the main themes of the 2025 annual meeting, when then economy minister Petar Dilov addressed Bulgaria’s trade representatives abroad.
