The annual awards for Bulgaria’s insurance and pension sectors were presented on Thursday evening at an official ceremony.
The 2025 Insurer of the Year awards in the General Insurance and Life Insurance categories went to DZI General Insurance and DZI Life Insurance, respectively. Pension Assurance Company Doverie won first place for its mandatory supplementary pension insurance activities in 2025, while Allianz Bulgaria Pension Company received the award for voluntary pension insurance. SDI Group won the 2025 Insurance Broker of the Year award in the General Insurance category, while I&G Insurance Brokers received the award in the Life Insurance category.
Held for the 18th consecutive year, the event marked the professional holiday of insurers, observed on October 1. The awards are organized by the University of Insurance and Finance, the Association of Bulgarian Insurers, the Bulgarian Association of Supplementary Pension Security Companies, the Prof. Dr. Veleslav Gavriyski Foundation and the Bulgarian Association of Insurance Brokers. BTA is among the media partners.
Official guests included Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Galab Donev, Bulgarian National Bank Governing Council Member Iliya Lingorski, National Social Security Institute Governor Vesela Karaivanova-Nacheva, Financial Supervision Commission (FSC) Chair Vasil Golemanski and Parliamentary Labour, Demographic and Social Policy Committee Chair Venko Sabrutev.
In a brief address, Association of Bulgarian Insurers Management Board Chair Nikolay Stanchev said the current environment of growing uncertainty, climate change, demographic challenges and new technologies was creating new risks. It is precisely at such times that the important role of insurance becomes clear, he added.
Iotova told those present that insurance in Bulgaria has a long history dating back to the Liberation. She said insurance was playing an increasingly important role amid geopolitical changes and thanked everyone in the insurance business for their professionalism.
Donev said the insurance and pension sectors were a significant factor in Bulgaria’s economic stability, resilience and social protection. He stressed that their contribution ranged from managing individual risks faced by households and businesses to addressing risks to the resilience of the economy as a whole.
Golemanski said trust was central to insurance and expressed confidence that the sector in Bulgaria had succeeded in building it. He also noted the importance of dialogue between the state, the regulator and business.
Other awards were also presented at the ceremony. Euroins Life Insurance won the 2025 Insurer of the Year award for Most Dynamic Development, while CCB-Sila Pension Assurance Company received the Pension Insurance Company of the Year award for Most Dynamic Development. General Broker Club won the Insurance Broker of the Year award for Most Dynamic Development, Amarant Bulgaria received the Insurance Broker of the Year award for Sustainable Development, and Winners Group took the Insurance Broker of the Year award for Quality of Service.
Bulstrad Vienna Insurance Group Management Board Member and Executive Director Ivo Gruev received the Prof. Dr. Veleslav Gavriyski Foundation’s National Award for Lifetime Contribution to the Development of Bulgarian Insurance. The foundation also presented an award to Rumyana Sotirova for her lifetime contribution to the development of Bulgarian social insurance. Lachezar Lekov received the National Award for Lifetime Contribution to the Development of Insurance Intermediation.
