The EU–Australia Free Trade Agreement is important not only in terms of investment, imports and exports; sharing expertise is also important, according to Tsvetan Simeonov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). He cited Australian farmers as an example, saying Bulgarian agricultural producers can learn from them how to remain competitive in the global market.
Simeonov was speaking at the “EU–Australia FTA: What It Means for Bulgarian Business” forum, held Wednesday at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. He committed the BCCI to disseminating information among Bulgarian businesses about the new opportunities opened up by the European Union–Australia Free Trade Agreement. In this regard, all available statements and presentations to be discussed at the event will be published through the Chamber’s information channels. The BCCI’s daily bulletin in Bulgarian alone reaches more than 12,000 subscribing companies, Simeonov said.
The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Georgiev, said that the topic of the forum fits naturally into the strategic development of the faculty. “We see Sofia University as a meeting place and an important forum for education, research, business and public policy, as well as a platform where international contacts can develop into practical cooperation,” he said.
Georgiev noted that two years ago Sofia University signed a new cooperation agreement with Western Sydney University, creating additional opportunities for education and academic exchange. Professors and guest lecturers from both institutions have already visited one another, he added.
