British historian, television presenter and author Professor Bettany Hughes is coming to Sofia to present her book The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and her film Bulgaria: Land of Roses. The event will take place in the conference hall of the InterContinental Hotel on October 19 at 6:30 pm, the Knigomania publishing house said on Friday. Journalist Boyko Vasilev will moderate the event.
Dan Jones, author of Powers and Thrones: A New History of the Middle Ages, says about Prof. Hughes’ The Seven Wonders…: “This is an entrancing book, at once a love letter to the ancient world and a learned introduction to some of the most astonishing feats of imagination and engineering in human history.”
In April, Hughes visited the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) with her team to explore the agency’s archives. She was welcomed by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, who personally introduced her to the wealth of its archival collections.
Professor Bettany Hughes has written and presented more than 50 television and radio documentaries for the BBC, Channel 4, Netflix, Discovery, PBS, The History Channel, National Geographic, BBC World and ITV. Her programmes have been watched by more than 250 million people worldwide.
