Balgarianovinite.com Journalist Boyko Vassilev, who moderated a conference dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the 1876 April Uprising at the BTA National Press Club in Veliko Tarnovo on Sunday, said that “this discussion turned into a conversation about today’s Bulgaria.”
He emphasized that it is important to talk about what part of the April Uprising is relevant today, but not through elementary comparisons that do not work in favor of everyday life, but through the questions of what part of modern Bulgaria was set in place back in April 1876.
The choice of Veliko Tarnovo as the First Revolutionary District of the April Uprising was not accidental, Vassilev pointed out, adding that in this way, the leaders of the uprising created the great connection between the Second Bulgarian Empire and the nation they wanted to build. Vassilev concluded that the conference is also aimed at the young people present in the press club.
BTA’s series of conferences are part of a joint initiative with Bulgarian National Television (BNT) and Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), called “14 Centuries of Bulgaria in Europe”, aiming to commemorate anniversaries in Bulgarian history that are significant for European history through to 2032, when 1,400 years will be marked since the establishment of the first Bulgarian state in Europe – Old Great Bulgaria. The most interesting moments from the conversations will be included in the April issue of LIK magazine, which BTA will dedicate to the 150th anniversary of the uprising.
