Balgarianovinite.com The Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Dimitar Radev participated in a meeting of the Heads of Mission of the European Union Member States held within the framework of the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, at the initiative of the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Sofia, Haralambos Kafkaridis, the BNB reported on Saturday.
In his key remarks, Radev highlighted three topics – the Bulgaria’s adoption of the euro on January 1, the political environment and economic framework of the country, and the macroeconomic outlook.
The BNB pointed out that the transition from the lev to the euro proceeded without operational disruptions and with full preservation of macro-financial stability, reflecting systematic prior preparation and effective institutional coordination. The euro area membership strengthens the country’s strategic positioning and provides a stable institutional framework for development.
Against the backdrop of a caretaker government and early parliamentary elections, the political debate is intense. According to Radev, the debate forms part of a broader process of clarifying the country’s strategic priorities, including its pro-European orientation, the implementation of structural and anti-corruption reforms, and the role of the state in the economy. Gradual consolidation in these areas will be important for the investment environment and long-term economic convergence.
Radev concluded that despite the complex political situation, macroeconomic conditions remain stable. Growth is positive, inflationary pressures are weakening, and the banking sector is resilient and well capitalized. At the same time, risks related to the external environment, price dynamics and fiscal policy require prudent and timely responses.
The Central Bank Governor noted that the sustainability of economic dynamics in the current environment requires a stable political framework, prudent macroeconomic policy anchored in fiscal discipline, and consistent progress in structural reforms.
