Yes, Bulgaria Co-chair and Democratic Bulgaria MP Ivaylo Mirchev questioned when those accused of setting fire to Starlink antennas left Bulgaria and when the security services learned what Prime Minister Radev knew, following his promise that results would be delivered soon, the party’s press office said on Monday.
Mirchev posted on Facebook: “When did those accused of setting fire to the Starlink antennas leave Bulgaria, and when did the security services find out what Prime Minister Rumen Radev knew when he promised results soon.” He recalled that on October 14, Radev had insisted that the State Agency for National Security should not disclose details to parliament and had assured MPs that the investigation into the arson attack on the Starlink antennas was under control: “A little more patience, you will have a result,” the statement quoted Radev. Five days later, the prosecution is asking the court for a European arrest warrant, while the two accused have left Bulgaria and their whereabouts are unknown, Yes, Bulgaria added.
“Now, the PM, personally, owes the public an explanation as to what has been achieved, what has been overlooked, and who bears responsibility. Need we remind everyone that for three days the Interior Ministry and the security services kept silent and concealed the incident, until the information was brought to light by Yes, Bulgaria,” the post added.
The burning of the Starlink antennas was first reported by Mirchev who said in a Facebook post on October 12 that 11 antennas used to communicate with Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite communications system, were deliberately set on fire at a secret facility near Sofia.
During a parliamentary hearing on security issues October 14, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said that an investigation is underway of the Starlink antenna fire and urged patience regarding its results. The PM also requested that the chair of the State Agency for National Security, who also spoke during the hearing, not reveal any details.
Sofia City Court announced that it will consider later on Monday a request by the prosecution service to issue a European arrest warrant for two individuals charged with setting ablaze Starlink antennas near Sofia earlier in October.
