Individuals and organizations were recognized at the inaugural “Thank You for the Good” awards ceremony, held at Sofia Live Club Monday evening. The initiative was organized by “Mailbox for Stories” and “House of Causes”.
“Every day we hear about what is wrong, but in the course of these conversations we overlook what is important, and above all the people who speak about what matters, take action and stand by others, especially when times are hardest,” actor Stefan Shterev, host of the awards ceremony, said. “Thank You for the Good” was born from a simple thought – that gratitude should be expressed more often, he added.
The awards recognized individuals and organizations for their contribution to education, culture, social development and social support. Instead of statuettes, the recipients received drawings by five children depicting what goodness and gratitude look like in their eyes.
The first award went to Zaedno v Chas [Together in Class] Foundation for its contribution to equal access to quality education through the development and support of teachers and school teams. Zaedno v Chas stands for a simple but vital truth – the place where a child is born should not determine how far they can go, Geri Turiyska, founder of “Mailbox for Stories”, said while presenting the award.
Other recipients included Niki Kanchev, for his longstanding and consistent support for life-saving causes; the “A Moment of Humanity” initiative, for its support for older people in the Kyustendil region; and SOS Children’s Villages Bulgaria, for its contribution to every child’s right to grow up in a safe family environment and for supporting children and families at risk.
Among those honoured were also Lazar Radkov, founder of “Caps for the Future” and “Rescue Club for the Future”; Dr-Denkova Dermatology Institute, for its “A Smile for Everyone” initiative, which provides free treatment to patients with facial paralysis; “One Percent Change”, an organization that brings together contemporary artists and gives new life to beloved Bulgarian songs; and graphic artist Lyudmil Georgiev, founder of the Grafikart Gallery, for creating a space for young Bulgarian graphic artists.
Hristo Mutafchiev, Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Actors, was also honoured for supporting retired actors facing financial difficulties through the union’s Social Fund.
An honorary award was presented to PR Care agency in memory of journalist and PR expert Elena Tsoneva, the agency’s founder and manager. “We want to thank her for the mark she left through her work and in the lives of the people who knew her,” host Stefan Shterev said while presenting the award.
The gala evening also featured live music performances by Deyan Kamenov and DeeStoned, Kamen Vodenicharov, Irra, Garcia and others.
