Balgarianovinite.com Stage of the Ages is an honour for Veliko Tarnovo and Bulgaria’s opera theatres, Konstantin Kisimov Music and Drama Theatre Director Gancho Ganchev said on Friday.
Ganchev spoke at the presentation of the July issue of the Bulgarian News Agency’s LIK magazine, dedicated to Bulgaria’s longest-running open-air opera and ballet festival.
Opening his remarks, Ganchev noted that the Veliko Tarnovo theatre would stage Emmerich Kalman’s operetta The Csardas Princess at Tsarevets Fortress on Saturday evening.
He said there was no better place to create and preserve history through the performing arts.
“I do not think there is a more fitting place to recreate history and make it endure through the centuries,” Ganchev said.
“Art began in nature and lived in nature. For those of us in the performing arts, entering such an open setting is a challenge. But I do not think anything is more meaningful than the history we create with every step over the years,” he said.
LIK magazine became freely accessible in January 2024. All issues published from its relaunch in 2022 up to Friday can be downloaded in electronic format from BTA’s website. The July issue, devoted to Stage of the Ages, is also available there, in Bulgarian language only.
