A former White House lawyer and frequent critic of President Donald Trump insisted on calling Trump a “rapist” Saturday on MS NOW, prompting anchor Jonathan Capehart to quickly correct the attorney.
Ty Cobb, who served in the first Trump administration, was part of a panel on The Weekend when he was asked about Trump and the courts.
Cobb instead pivoted to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers, and wouldn’t back down after Capehart interjected to correct him:
TY COBB: But I would say that I certainly understand that perspective.
I think at people need to recognize that when the founders created the Constitution, they expected that Congress diligently would work to control a president who was either not up to the task or, in this case, evil.
They didn’t really draft the Constitution with the expectation that an informed electorate would elect somebody like Trump, a malignant narcissist, convicted felon, rapist, and somebody who was really out to feather his own nest and pursue all these vanity projects.
JONATHAN CAPEHART: Well, one, well, one, one thing, one thing. Ty, I just have to stop you
COBB: Sure.
CAPEHART: — because you just you just called the president a, a a rapist. And that is a legal thing that he has not been convicted of. So we just got to be be clear on that.
COBB: No, you’re absolutely right. No, you’re absolutely right. He has not been convicted of it. But the federal judge who oversaw the [E. Jean Carroll] trial said on the record that he was guilty of rape.
CAPEHART: No, no, no, no sexual assault.
COBB: No, actually, Jonathan, you’re wrong. I’ll send you the site.
CAPEHART: Please do.
Cobb’s appearance on MS NOW came a day after he predicted to podcast host Dean Obeidallah that finalizing the 2026 election results could drag out into January.
Speaking on a Friday episode of The Dean Obeidallah Show, Cobb predicted “there will be surprises:”
We have to expect that there will be interference at the polls, the likely use and abuse of law enforcement and attempts to intimidate people and interfere and discourage voting.
But at the same time, I do think we will see a bunch of legal contests, you know, subsequent to that. Attendant to those will be the seizure of ballots, the seizure of voting machines.
We’ll see claims, you know, Mike, you know, the My Pillow guy, Mike Lindell type claims about voting machines, you know, which cost Fox almost a billion dollars, three-quarters of a billion dollars, and Lindell most of his fortune. So, we’ll see that.
And then we had the issues about, you know, what goes to the House.
Now, it’s not exactly correct that the House of Representatives gets to rule on all those elections because once the states certify the winners, you know, they’re obligated to seat those winners.
But it’s where the state doesn’t certify, you know, the actual winners and lets it go to the House, that the House could be a decision maker.
And of course, that would that would be a heavily gamed circumstance. And the rules there are very, you know, they’re not opaque at all.
I mean, excuse me, they are opaque. They’re not very transparent at all. And and so we’ll see a lot of a lot of sort of power broking going on there that I fear, you know, we’ll keep that election, you know, undecided well into, well beyond January of 2027 I fear.
Trump was found liable in 2023 for sexually assaulting Carroll in 1996, in the dressing room of Manhattan’s Bergdorf Goodman.
He has repeatedly denied the allegations, claiming to have never met Carroll despite a photo which showed them at a party.
A New York jury found Trump civilly liable in May 2023 for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll, and awarded $5 million in damages.
