Candidates for members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) from the National Assembly quota will be heard from November 2 to 6, the parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee decided Wednesday, updating the schedule for the hearings. The proposal was made by committee chair Yanka Tyankova of Progressive Bulgaria. The original deadline had been set for November 4.
“Each candidate is allotted approximately two hours for the hearing, of which up to 30 minutes are for presenting their concept. Therefore, I believe that we cannot hear more than three or four candidates in a single day,” Tyankova said.
Under the schedule approved by the committee, the first hearing will be held on Monday, November 2, starting at 2:30 p.m. The procedure will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m., as it is not a plenary sitting day. On the following days, the hearings will begin at 2:30 p.m., after the end of the plenary sitting.
The Legal Affairs Committee decided that on hearing days, the final hearing would start at 6:30 p.m. Candidates will be notified in advance of the day and approximate time at which they are expected to appear before the committee.
