Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) leader Delyan Peevski accused Prime Minister Rumen Radev for “lying again” referring to Radev’s statement that there were 36 invoices for 36 flights worth a total of EUR 5 million, received from the authorities in Malta. “I am making the following proposal to Prime Minister Rumen Radev – if there are 36 invoices for flights of mine paid for by Spectrum, I will resign as leader of the MRF. If there are not, he should resign as Prime Minister or dismiss Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev,” Peevski said on Friday.
“Thirty-six invoices for 36 flights of mine paid for by this company cannot possibly exist,” the MRF leader said.
“I expect them to produce today these 36 invoices for 36 flights that were paid for by the company,” he added. According to him, everything was paid for by him and his family and there was nothing for him to prove.
In 2021, Peevski was designated by the United States under the Global Magnitsky Act for corruption and influence peddling. The US authorities described him as an oligarch who had “regularly engaged in corruption”, including through influence peddling and bribes to shield himself from public scrutiny and exert control over key institutions and sectors in Bulgaria. Peevski is challenging the designation in a US court, with his lawyers arguing that there is no evidence of wrongdoing by their client. The designation is supposed to have affected Peevski’s ability to use banking services. In 2023, the United Kingdom also sanctioned Peevski over alleged attempts to exert control over key institutions and sectors through bribery and the use of his media empire.
