Balgarianovinite.com Meeting with Iliana Ivanova of the European Court of Auditors, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said that reforms that bring long-term benefits to society remain top priority for the government, while the restored political stability in the country provides the necessary timeframe for their implementation, as quoted by the government information service.
Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov and European Court of Auditors members Ivana Maletic and Alejandro Blanco Fernandez also took part in the meeting.
For Bulgaria, safeguarding the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the funds allocated to the country under it are no less important than the reforms associated with them — reforms that Bulgarian society expects, Rumen Radev added.
The prime minister noted that European funding is an important development tool, but its effectiveness depends on strengthening citizens’ trust in public institutions and on implementing policies and reforms that uphold the rule of law, improve citizens’ quality of life, and increase the country’s competitiveness.
Radev also noted that the rules and conditions governing the use of European Union funds should be the same for all member states. He again emphasized that Bulgaria expects the new Competitiveness Fund to operate in a way that ensures its resources also reach less developed member states.
Otherwise, according to the prime minister, industrial and technological disparities in Europe will continue to deepen. For this reason, Rumen Radev once again called for industrial cohesion within the EU, an issue on which Bulgaria will insist during negotiations on the adoption of the Union’s next Multiannual Financial Framework.
