In an address to Parliament on Friday, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said that his cabinet’s goal is to bring price rises under control and to halt the upward trend in prices. In response to a question from Continue the Change (CC), Radev specified that he has never promised to lower prices.
The Prime Minister accused CC of being the ones who promoted Bulgaria adopting the euro and “swore on television that not only would prices not rise, but they would actually fall”. He added: “I wonder how people who claim to be intellectually superior can lack even basic logical thinking and show no interest in what is happening in other European countries, such as Croatia, about which we have repeatedly warned.”
Radev stated that he never said that the government would cut prices by 15%. He noted that retail chains had announced that prices for certain products would be reduced by 15%. He said that the government had taken a number of measures to bring prices under control. The Prime Minister criticized CC for causing massive inflation as, in his words, they had done nothing to halt the rise in prices following the Convergence Report on Bulgaria.
Regarding the fight against the oligarchy, the Prime Minister said that the government is waging this battle, while CC have embraced the oligarchy, legitimized it and stood alongside it. “So please don’t lecture me here on how to fight the oligarchy – it is pointless,” he added.
