Ten people have been detained by the police in an investigation under the supervision of the Plovdiv District Prosecution Office. Under investigation is an organized crime group established for the purpose of unlawfully obtaining funds from the budget of the National Health Insurance Fund through fictitious hospital admissions, the prosecution service announced on Monday.
According to prosecutors, a specialized operation was carried out in Plovdiv by the Economic Police Department of the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry, under the supervision of the Plovdiv District Prosecution Office and jointly with representatives of the Health Ministry. The operation targeted two clinics at a Plovdiv hospital and two medical centres, one in Plovdiv and one in Karlovo.
A total of 40 personal searches and searches were carried out at various premises and addresses in Plovdiv, Krichim and Karlovo. Evidence was seized, including medical records, computers and other materials. The prosecution said that ten people have so far been detained in connection with the investigation by the police.
The investigation is ongoing, the prosecution service added.
