Ten Bulgarian volleyball coaches from around the country participate in a ten-day international training seminar in Cesena, Italy. The keynote speaker is Marcello Abbondanza, head coach of the Bulgarian women’s national volleyball team.
The Bulgarian coaches attending the seminar are: Daria Georgieva (Volleyball Club Olympiets Pleven), Vasil Chilov (Volleyball Club Kazanlak Volley), Mario Dimitrov (Volleyball Club Metalurg Pernik), Patrisiya Choleva (Volleyball Club Levski Sofia), Slavi Kofov (Volleyball Club NSA Volley), Anatoli Penev (Volleyball Club Troyan Volley), Rosen Kostov (Volleyball Club Perun 1 Varna), Andrey Yanchev (Volleyball Club Samokov 2009), and Georgi Kostadinov (Volleyball Club Akademik Volley Sofia).
The training is part of an EU and International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) project aimed at developing coaching and technical staff. The programme covers a wide range of topics related to tactics, the refinement of volleyball skills, the development of a volleyball culture, and mentoring in volleyball.
Special attention is given to modern methods of analysis and feedback in the training process. Participants are introduced to automated systems for monitoring and evaluating performance, as well as the use of biofeedback and audio-visual feedback in the preparation and execution of technical skills by volleyball players.
In his lectures, Abbondanza also presents his own research on the organization of defensive play and the interaction between blocking and defence. The practical examples allow coaches to examine in detail the principles behind building an effective defensive system.
The programme includes attendance at matches in the Italian championship. The Bulgarian coaches attended the Italian Women’s Volleyball Serie A1 match between Vallefoglia and Cuneo. Watching high-level matches complements the theoretical part of the training with practical examples from a competitive setting.
The participation of Bulgarian specialists in the seminar is part of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation’s strategy to develop coaching staff and enhance their expertise. The exchange of experience, access to modern training methods, and the opportunity to build upon professional knowledge are an important part of the efforts toward the sustainable development of volleyball in Bulgaria.
