The heads of the prosecution service, the Central Election Commission (CEC), the Ministry of the Interior, and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) met to discuss the interaction between the institutions and the coordination of their actions to ensure a lawful and transparent electoral process, the prosecution service press office reported on Tuesday. On the agenda were issues relating to the prevention and combating of breaches and offences under electoral legislation, as well as the protection of citizens’ political rights.
The meeting was attended by acting Prosecutor General Vanya Stefanova, Deputy Prosecutor General Magdalena Lazarova, CEC Chair Georgi Horozov, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev, SANS Chair Plamen Tonchev, CEC deputy chairs Ismail Osman and Margarita Mahaeva, CEC Secretary Yordanka Gancheva, as well as members of the National Inter-Agency Unit formed in connection with the forthcoming presidential election.
The exchange of information, the timely examination of reports received and the taking of necessary action within the legal remit of the institutions were among the topics discussed.
Stefanova reaffirmed the prosecution service’s commitment to actively supporting the efforts of officials at the Ministry of the Interior and other state bodies in combating violations and offences directed against citizens’ electoral rights.
