Balgarianovinite.com Vazrazhdane party leader Kostadin Kostadinov expects the Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), Andrey Gyurov, to be the next caretaker prime minister. “Most likely Gyurov,” Kostadinov told Bulgarian National Television on Sunday, noting that the only other choice left for President Rumen Radev in picking the next caretaker prime minister is someone associated with MP Delyan Peevski, a central target of corruption allegations.
President Radev is expected on Monday to hand GERB-UDF the first exploratory mandate for forming a regular government after the cabinet of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov resigned on December 12. GERB-UDF has announced that it will return the mandate unfulfilled. The second-largest parliamentary group, Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), has made a similar statement. If that occurs, the President will assign the third and last mandate to a parliamentary group of his choosing. If the third attempt also fails, the President should designate the prime minister of a future caretaker government, whose main task will be to prepare snap parliamentary elections.
According to Kostadinov, the next elections should be conducted using voting machines. He believes there is enough time to make the necessary legislative change in this direction.
Kostadinov also stated that Vazrazhdane is not concerned about a potential political project of Rumen Radev. “We have even said many times that, after so many statements, it would be good for him to appear on the stage,” the Vazrazhdane leader commented. He added that he does not see Vazrazhdane in a joint government with a potential party of Radev. “I don’t think he will govern with us, more likely with CC-DB. After all, they share a common political origin,” he said.
