Balgarianovinite.com There is a unified position of the entire Government to use all mechanisms at the European level to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine, said Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova at a briefing after a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye Hakan Fidan.
Petrova added that Bulgaria has clearly shown that it will take a position that speaks realistically about the situation that the country finds itself in. She also said that the communication coming from Ukraine is to find a peaceful solution and to conduct a dialogue at a high level.
“In Bulgaria, any subsequent decision on assistance – whether military-technical or humanitarian – will be made in accordance with the established procedure with a decision of the Council of Ministers, which will be proposed for debate in the National Assembly”, said Petrova. According to her, support for Ukraine has different aspects – both humanitarian and military-technical, which are assessed according to the capabilities of the country.
Asked by journalists about Wednesday’s visit of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation Eleonora Mitrofanova to the Foreign Ministry, Petrova said that she had not met with her and specified that the meeting was at the director general level. Petrova added that Mitrofanova raised a number of bilateral issues that are in no way politically engaged, describing them as “completely normal diplomatic decisions”.
When asked whether Bulgaria has communicated the decision regarding aid to Ukraine with its partners, Petrova replied that this is a sovereign decision based on the capacity of the country and Bulgaria is not a country that will report to other countries what it will do or what it will not do.
Prime Minister Rumen Radev said Wednesday that the Bulgarian Government is discontinuing the provision of weapons from the Bulgarian armed forces depots to Ukraine.
Petrova also announced that next week Bulgaria will have a technical-level meeting with representatives of the United States of America regarding the establishment of a visa-free regime between the two countries.
