Balgarianovinite.com The exhibition “Moldova 35: Independence Unites Us” opened on Lovers’ Bridge in Sofia on Thursday. It showcases Moldova’s historical, cultural, and tourist heritage as yet another symbol of friendship and close relations with Bulgaria, according to the organizers.
The event was opened by Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Bulgaria Emil Jacota. In his welcoming remarks, he recalled the path the country has taken over its 35 years of independence, during which democratic institutions have been strengthened and the path toward European integration has become increasingly visible.
“Moldova’s history has its roots in the distant past – a legacy reflected in the Cucuteni culture, traditional costumes, folk songs and dances, the legacy of Stephen the Great (Stefan cel Mare), Orthodox spirituality, and the rich cultural traditions preserved over the centuries,” said the Ambassador. He expressed hope that through the exhibition, more people will discover Moldova’s traditions, hospitality, wines, and cultural and tourist attractions.
The exhibition highlights landmarks in Chisinau, the medieval fortresses of Soroca and Tighina, historic monasteries, the Old Orhei (Orheiul Vechi), picturesque natural landscapes, the famous wine cellars, traditional Moldovan cuisine, folk costumes, and authentic crafts. Special attention is given to the ia – a traditional blouse with an embroidered collar – which was inscribed on the UN Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Herigate of Humanity.
