Balgarianovinite.com Тhe 41st Flora Burgas flower exhibition and the upcoming stage of the Giro d’Italia cycling race are turning Burgas into a major tourist destination in May, Burgas Municipality Deputy Mayor for Culture Diana Savateva said at the opening of the exhibition.
“Burgas has opened its doors to the upcoming season,” Savateva said, noting that in recent years the city has strived to be exciting and artistic all year round, regardless of the season.
This year, Flora coincides with another significant event, a stage of the Giro d’Italia cycling tour, which Burgas is hosting.
“You might ask: what does a flower show have to do with sports? Neither event is purely artistic nor purely athletic, because they bring together the energy of many people. I’m sure Burgas will feel it,” Savateva said. She added that she hoped the exhibition would also be visited by guests who have come for the cycling race, emphasizing that this is “an opportunity to showcase Burgas as a wonderful place for tourism and cultural initiatives, even when the weather isn’t on our side.”
Savateva thanked her colleagues and partners for the organization, noting that Flora, now in its 41st edition, is also a business project that allows participants to showcase and sell their products.
This year’s edition is themed around the Giro d’Italia cycling race. The colours in the art installations are bright, dominated by pink, the race’s symbolic colour. The flower show also features displays promoting an active lifestyle, exercise, and cycling. The commercial areas showcase potted flowers, shrubs, small trees, seedlings, and bulbs.
Separate sections feature ceramics, outdoor and garden furnishings, and landscaping equipment and supplies.
Friday’s opening program featured the Burgas Seagulls performance by the State Puppet Theatre – Burgas, a fashion show with works by students from the National Academy of Art, a dance programme, and a concert by the Goresht Pyasak band.
The exhibition will run until May 10. Demonstrations on the making of bouquets, floristry, ikebana, bonsai, and woodcarving are also scheduled.
