The latest edition of the Varna Jazz Days music festival will bring names from the international music scene to audiences this autumn, organizer Neyko Bodurov said on Wednesday. The concerts will take place over two evenings at the Filial stage of the Drama Theatre in Varna. Three groups, featuring some of the most prominent artists in the world of modern jazz, funk and acoustic guitar, will perform, he said.
There will be two concerts on October 25. Antonio Forcione, described by critics as the “Jimi Hendrix of the acoustic guitar”, and Grammy Award winner Cenk Erdogan will perform at one of them. They will present their new album Storytellers.
That same evening, one of the most influential contemporary saxophonists, Gaetano Partipilo, will also take the stage with his nu-jazz formation Boom Collective. The Italian musician’s project combines vocal improvisation, instrumental energy and an alternative rock beat.
The next Varna Jazz Days event will take place on November 29, when former Prince bassist Ida Nielsen will arrive in the city together with the band The Funkbots. They will offer funk and groove rhythms. Nielsen is regularly ranked among the top 10 bass players in the world, the organizer noted. He recalled that the event’s concept is to present new albums and projects by prominent names from the international and Bulgarian jazz scenes.
This year’s edition of the festival is once again being held with the financial support of Varna Municipality’s Culture Fund.
