Balgarianovinite.com Four cities submitted their documents to host the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest by the deadline on Friday, the Bulgarian National Television reported. The bids of Sofia, Burgas, Varna, and Plovdiv will now be reviewed and evaluated by the national broadcaster’s working group in accordance with the European Broadcasting Union’s procedures.
Bulgaria will host Eurovision next year because Bulgaria’s Dara won the 2026 edition. The city where the song contest will take place in 2027 will be announced by the end of July, BNT specified.
Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said, as quoted by Sofia Municipality in a press release, that he greatly respects every city and his fellow mayors. “I am convinced that any of the candidates would handle this responsibility with dignity. Sofia is ready to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, but what is more important is for Bulgaria to present itself in the best possible light to the world and for all of us to work together toward this goal, regardless of which city is selected as the host,” he noted. The capital previously hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015.
On July 1, the Government adopted an action plan for the preparation and hosting of Eurovision in 2027, drafted by the Organizing Committee for the preparation and hosting of the song contest. The document outlines specific initiatives and tasks, deadlines for their implementation, responsible institutions, and expected results. On June 11, the Organizing Committee held its first meeting.
