Balgarianovinite.com A Hint of Love received the Grand Prize Golden Aphrodite at the 34th edition of the Love Is Folly International Film Festival on Sunday in Varna. The jury awarded the prize to Mael Piriou for his courage in searching for love even in the most impossible situations.
The Best Director award went to Stefano Mordini for The Lesson. The jury praised him for creating a magnetic narrative that draws viewers into a dense and complex story about obsession, into which love can sometimes turn.
The Best Actor award went to Bastien Bouillon for his role in the French film Leave One Day. He was honoured for his portrayal of love through his interpretation of the character. The Best Actress award went to Ester Pantano for her role in Francesca and Giovanni – Love and Mafia, directed by Ricky Tognazzi and Simona Izzo. She was recognised for portraying the irresistible force of love, which stops at no obstacle or fear. The actress sent a video message thanking the festival for the recognition and expressing her admiration for Francesca Morvillo, whom she portrays in the film.
The winners at the 34th edition of Love Is Folly were selected by a jury comprising Vladimir Penev, Zhana Yakovleva, Stanislav Todorov-Rogi and Ana Papadopoulou.
The Special Award of the Municipality of Varna went to Three Goodbyes, an Italian-Spanish co-production directed by Isabel Coixet. The award was announced by Deputy Mayor Sofia Koleva. The Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers honoured the Bulgarian comedy “Aurora”, directed by Georgi Stoev ‘Jackie’ and Nikola Boshnakov, who attended the ceremony and personally accepted the award.
The audience also voted for its favourite film at the festival, and this time its choice coincided with that of the jury. A Hint of Love received the most votes. The winner received a work by Varna artist Krasen Berbenkov. Going forward, the award will be created by an artist from the city hosting the event.
Organisers Georgi Toshev and Dimitar Stojanovich, who took over the organisation of Love Is Folly this year, plan to expand the programme next year while continuing to screen classic films in restored versions in parallel screenings. They noted that interest in the festival remains strong this year, with full cinemas and additional screenings of some films due to audience demand.
The festival closed with a restored copy of Jacques Deray’s 1969 film La Piscine, starring Alain Delon and Romy Schneider in the lead roles.
