President Donald Trump, who ordered an invasion of Venezuela and launched a war on Iran this year, is once again angry that he was not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
On Friday, the Nobel Committee gave the award to Navi Pillay, a South African human rights attorney who served as a judge on the International Criminal Court. Pillay previously defended an imprisoned Nelson Mandela, and last year led a United Nations panel that concluded that Israel committed genocide in Gaza, citing a specific intent to eliminate Palestinians in the territory.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who started the Iran war with Trump, slammed the decision.
During a rally in Syracuse, New York on Friday night, Trump complained for several minutes about not receiving the prize, which he has long sought.
“And this is a stain on the country of Norway,” the president told the crowd. “We will not forget, Norway. It’s another sign of how they’re ripping off our country.”
A few hours later, Trump took to Truth Social, where he blasted Pillay, stating that she should not have received the award because “no one ever heard of her” and she “hates Israel.”
“This is the woman who received the Nobel Peace Prize over the Great United States of America, whose Representative, ME, settled eight Wars, and many other things,” he said in a post containing a photo of the 85-year-old Pillay. “I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else! In fact, to the best of my knowledge, no one ever heard of her other than the fact that she, very obviously, hates Israel. I don’t know what the woman has done.”
The president concluded his lengthy post by saying, “The United States of America, represented by me, as your President, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t. This is an indelible stain on Norway, one that will never be forgotten. The Nobel ‘Peace’ Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of Radical Ideologues who are Anti-Democracy, and Enemies of Civilization!”
Last year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, presented Trump with her award in January, less than two weeks after he authorized the abduction of Nicolás Maduro. Since then, Machado has attempted to return to Venezuela at least three times, but has been denied entry each time by the Venezuelan government, which is essentially run by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio via Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez. Trump has praised Rodriguez for cooperating with the U.S., which he has said is taking “billions of barrels of oil from Venezuela” because “to the victor belong the spoils.”
