Balgarianovinite.com The General Labour Inspectorate (GLI) is reinforcing inspection teams at Black Sea resorts with inspectors seconded from other regions to increase workplace checks during the peak summer season, the press centre of the GLI said on Tuesday.
Hospitality, tourism and retail remain high-risk sectors due to frequent breaches of labour laws, including illegal employment, pay, working hours, the employment of minors, foreign and third-country nationals, and health and safety requirements.
In the first half of 2026, the GLI carried out nearly 8,000 inspections in these sectors, uncovering just under 29,000 violations. More than half of them involved employment relations, while the other half concerned workplace health and safety. Inspectors issued over 1,000 administrative violation reports, while final penalties and approved settlements totalled EUR 976,000.
The GLI stressed that a written employment contract signed before work begins is the best guarantee of workers’ rights. Employees should receive a signed copy of the contract, proof of its registration with the National Revenue Agency, and a job description. Written salary agreements also determine social security contributions and future benefits, including sick pay, maternity, unemployment and pensions, they pointed out.
Reports of labour law violations can be submitted to any regional GLI office, by post, courier or through the agency’s online reporting system.
