Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov will appear at the Crossing Border literary festival in The Hague on November 6, according to the festival’s website.
At the Koninklijke Schouwburg, one of the Netherlands’ best-known theatres, which opened its doors in 1804, he will be in conversation with Dutch writer and journalist Roos van Rijswijk about his latest novel, The Gardener and Death.
The Crossing Border festival is organised by the non-governmental cultural foundation Other World Productions and runs from November 3 to 8.
Georgi Gospodinov is a Bulgarian writer and one of the most prominent European authors today, the festival’s website says. Gospodinov’s novel The Gardener and Death was published in Dutch in March this year under a reversed title, Death and the Gardener. The translation from Bulgarian was made by Hellen Kooijman, who also translated Gospodinov’s novel Time Shelter into Dutch.
Gospodinov was among the favourites for the Nobel Prize in Literature listed Wednesday by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
The winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature will be officially announced in Stockholm on Thursday at 2 p.m. Bulgarian time.
