Balgarianovinite.com The Government approved the financial plan for holding the presidential and vice-presidential elections in Bulgaria in October, allocating EUR 116.928 million for the vote. Under the Electoral Code, the election budget must be approved no later than 55 days before election day, while funds for the organizational and technical preparations must be provided to municipal and regional administrations no later than 30 days before election day.
The necessary funding for the approved election preparations and expenses will be provided from the expenditures envisaged in the 2026 central budget.
The funding will cover the preparation and printing of electoral rolls; the material and technical arrangements for the election process, including premises for computing centres and the acceptance of election protocols; logistical support for regional and municipal administrations and the Council of Ministers administration; remuneration for members of district and polling station election commissions; voting abroad; security measures by the Interior Ministry to maintain public order and security; an information campaign on citizens’ rights and obligations and voting procedures; video surveillance and recording of the election process; and the organization of polling stations in state schools, among other activities.
The Council of Ministers is prepared to provide additional funding if the Central Election Commission concludes contracts for logistics and technical support for specialized electronic voting machines, as well as for other materials and related activities needed to support machine voting. Additional funding may also cover the establishment of a machine voting management unit, paper ballot voting, computerized processing of election results, and publication of an election results bulletin.
