Balgarianovinite.com Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said cooperation among law enforcement agencies in the fight against drug trafficking was improving steadily. Speaking to reporters in Momchilgrad on Saturday, he commented on Friday’s seizure in Burgas of hundreds of kilogrammes of cocaine and marijuana by officers of the Border Police General Directorate.
“This operation was carried out by the Border Police. Its operational units have become much more active. They cooperate with the General Directorate Combating Organised Crime and the National Police General Directorate. So cooperation is getting better and better. I expect increasingly better results,” Demerdzhiev said.
Asked whether the destination of the seized drugs was known, he said: “A lot is known, but I cannot share it.”
“If we track prices, and we do track the prices of narcotic substances, marijuana is headed for Turkiye. Usually, other drugs come from there towards our border. We are trying to counter this. We can see that the results are getting better, and the quantities of drugs seized speak for themselves,” the minister added.
On Friday, Burgas District Prosecutor Georgi Chinev said on Facebook that “Burgas is once again making headlines with good news in the fight against crime”.
