Interior Minister Sees Increased Public Trust in Ministry’s New Leadership as Police Target Vote Buying across Bulgaria 2026

Balgarianovinite.com Caretaker Interior Minister Emil Dechev Thursday said that public trust in the Ministry’s new leadership has increased. He pointed to what he described as a several-fold increase in alerts about election-related crimes compared to the October 2024 parliamentary elections. Dechev noted that the Ministry was working to dismantle vote-buying schemes and was doing so without applying double standards.
Interior Ministry Secretary General Georgi Kandev said that urgent searches of private properties, vehicles, and commercial premises had been carried out during a police operation targeting vote buying in the town of Varbitsa, Shumen Region. Authorities seized identity documents, lists of names, and materials related to signature collection for a political party’s participation in the April 19 parliamentary elections, along with EUR 76,280 in cash. Later in the day, the Shumen police press centre added that six individuals had been detained, and witnesses had been questioned.
Also on Thursday, police seized more than EUR 20,000 in cash and campaign materials during an operation targeting a retail business, a grocery store, and an adjoining family hotel in the Black Sea town of Pomorie. The premises were operated by a suspect accused of offering financial incentives to residents to influence them to vote for a specific candidate or political party. The individual was detained for up to 24 hours.
In Pleven Region, police confiscated firearms, cash, and lists of names.
A gendarmerie-backed operation is underway in Lovech Region. Inspections are being conducted at pawnshops, fast-loan offices, and retail outlets. Checkpoints have also been set up at key locations, where officers are inspecting individuals and vehicles.
In Haskovo Region, police detained three people over the past 24 hours on suspicion of vote buying. A 47-year-old woman, the owner of a commercial establishment in Dimitrovgrad, was arrested after allegedly urging customers to vote for a specific political party. A notebook containing names and corresponding sums of money was seized from the premises. Two more individuals—a 35-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman—were detained in Harmanli for similar offences.
Similar operations were carried out in Plovdiv and Smolyan.  Interior Minister Sees Increased Public Trust in Ministry’s New Leadership as Police Target Vote Buying across Bulgaria 2026 THE NEWS FROM BULGARIA – NEWS AGENCY 2009-2025 2026-04-02 17:05:19 Latest news World news Country news Most important news latest news most important latest of the day Justice Petar Nizamov Feathers Petar Nizamov- Feathers Justice bg iustitia.bg iustitia iusticia usticia investigation Burgas Bulgaria news news of the last hour news of the day news of today Bulgaria news The news from Bulgaria blitz news top news most important most commented latest news Boyko Borisov news weather coronavirus news news weather facebook youtube facebook instagram news today news of the last minutes news today today news news bg news leading news hot news bg news site for news all news news bg news of the last hour latest latest news bg news of today news today news today news of the last hour latest news today news bg news news 24 hours news vesti bg novini news world bird bg bivol bg bivol trud bg novini latest news today novinite bg news hello bulgaria political party coat of arms delyan peevski scandalous Bulgarian National Television Free Europe Television scandal exclusive live tv live right now tv tv online tv program bg live now tv news online tv online live court Burgas court Burgas district court Burgas court Burgas district court Burgas district court Burgas appellate court Burgas prosecutor Burgas prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev Prosecutor Geshev Tsatsarov Ministry of Internal Affairs Burgas ODMR Burgas ODPR Burgas police Burgas district police Burgas prosecutor Tsatsarov SGS cases Varna court chairman of the SGS court decisions on civil cases decisions on cases Plovdiv court decision of the court decisions cases Varna court criminal cases district district court decisions work in the court SGS chairman of the SGS judges Sofia court post judges Plovdiv court Plovdiv judges Plovdiv Supreme Court Inspectorate Supreme Court Supreme Judicial Council lawyer lawyer criminal cases lawyer civil cases lawyer marriage cases lawyer administrative criminal law criminal process civil law civil process administrative law constitutional law
