Balgarianovinite.com Fentanyl, other high-risk narcotic substances, and precursors for their production were seized by police during a special operation ordered by Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev a week ago, the Ministry said on Wednesday.
Seized items included 1.78 kg of fentanyl, 9.27 kg of green plant material and 30 cannabis plants, nearly 8 kg of dried marijuana, and almost 9.5 kg of precursors for drug production, as well as other types of high-risk narcotic substances such as amphetamine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, and smoking tea, among others. During the operation, more than 39,800 people and 3,018 sites were checked for nitrous oxide, known as laughing gas. Authorities found over 8,000 ml, detained 691 people, and initiated 445 pre-trial proceedings.
A total of 101,037 motor vehicles and 117,098 people were checked; 31,767 ticket fines were imposed; 3,464 violations were recorded through statements of traffic violation; and 15,286 e-ticket fines were served.
To counter economic crime, a total of 4,801 sites were inspected, including those involved in activities with ferrous and non-ferrous metals, scrapyards, pawnshops, gaming halls and casinos, fast loan companies, and places for storing products of animal and non-animal origin. Checks were also carried out for excise goods without excise stamps and violations related to trademark rights. In total, 30,194 people were checked, 369 were detained, and 206 pre-trial proceedings were initiated.
A total of 31 vehicles declared wanted were found in just one week, as well as 306 people wanted nationwide. Twenty-five thefts of motor vehicles and parts were also solved.
Operations are ongoing, the Interior Ministry added.
On May 13, Demerdzhiev gave a news briefing at the Council of Ministers after a government meeting, saying that a large-scale nationwide special police operation had begun that day.
