Balgarianovinite.com Following the April 19 snap parliamentary elections, Interior Ministry’s acting Secretary General Georgi Kandev wrote on Facebook on Monday: “We gave it our all. Not as an excuse. I was fully aware of how deeply eroded public trust in the electoral process had become. I was also aware of the attempts to buy votes.”
He underscored that despite the tight deadlines, he worked nonstop and with a clear understanding of the responsibility behind every action. “We did everything in our power to make this process fairer. More secure. I know that one battle does not fix an entire system. But I know that every change begins with the refusal to accept the status quo,” he added.
Kandev noted that during his work there had been pressure and resistance, but also support from colleagues across the country. He expressed gratitude to caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov and the political leadership of the Interior Ministry headed by Emil Dechev.
“I’m not claiming that we have managed to change everything. But I can say that we did not back down. We did not turn a blind eye. We did not give up,” Kandev added. According to him, even a small shift in voter confidence is significant. “If even one person today believes that their vote matters, then it was worth it. Bulgaria deserves fair elections,” he noted.
