Balgarianovinite.com Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov and Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynsky held a conversation with investigative journalist Christo Grozev to discuss the challenges facing Bulgaria related to external influence, active measures, manipulation, and hybrid activities, the government said in a press release on Wednesday. Grozev has been invited to support the work of the temporary coordination mechanism within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to counter disinformation and combat hybrid threats ahead of the April 19 early parliamentary elections.
During the conversation, the journalist shared his extensive experience in exposing hybrid threats and espionage activities. He referred to recent investigations into Russian spy networks operating within the European Union, as well as findings by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons that arms dealer Emilian Gebrev had been poisoned with a nerve agent from the Novichok group.
Gurov and Neynsky outlined their plans to build a timely, structured, and integrated institutional communication mechanism to respond to hybrid threats, foreign interference, and information manipulation.
Grozev agreed to assist the initiative by providing concrete information exposing malicious influence operations gathered over the years. Hybrid threats and the infiltration of foreign agents, the government said, can be addressed at both national and European level through mechanisms developed by the European Commission.
