Balgarianovinite.com Bulgaria’s investment landscape was marked by strong signals of growth, diversification, and strategic focus on high-value industries, according to developments highlighted at the 20th Investor of the Year awards organized by the InvestBulgaria Agency (IBA), which also marked its 30th anniversary. The official ceremony was held at the Hyatt Regency Sofia hotel on Monday evening.
The top distinction, Investor of the Year 2025, was awarded to BTL Industries Bulgaria for a EUR 51 million investment in Plovdiv, which created over 700 jobs. The company, active in Bulgaria since 1998, has evolved into BTL’s global production base and employs more than 850 people, exporting medical devices to over 120 countries. Its leadership emphasized that the award recognizes long-term development in Bulgaria rather than only the scale of investment, and pointed to the country’s potential to become a major medical technology hub.
Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova presented the award and the “Golden Bull” statuette by sculptor Seyfettin Shekerov to the company’s CEO Veselin Karavasilev. Iotova said that through their activities in Bulgaria investors create and strengthen confidence in Bulgaria as a favourable place for business.
Other major awards reflected a broad geographic and sectoral spread of investment. Intuitive Surgical Bulgaria was recognized for a greenfield project in Parvomay, Aero Technic BG for aviation-sector expansion in Sofia, Nestlé Bulgaria for business growth in the capital, and Festo Bulgaria for innovative industrial investment across multiple cities. Across categories, emphasis was placed on job creation, technological development, and regional economic impact.
Special distinctions highlighted contributions in areas such as sustainable business, low-carbon footprint initiatives, start-ups, social entrepreneurship, and regional development. Companies including Air Liquide, Simobotics, and Industrial Park Shumen were among those recognized, alongside municipalities such as Stara Zagora for attracting investment.
At the same event, InvestBulgaria Agency reported that foreign direct investment in Bulgaria exceeded EUR 800 million in the first two months of 2026 – nearly double the figure from the same period in 2025. Agency leadership attributed this growth to Bulgaria’s macroeconomic stability, competitive tax system, institutional support, and increasingly important human capital.
Officials stressed that Bulgaria aims to attract investments in manufacturing, ICT, research and development, and education, with a clear preference for projects that generate innovation and higher added value. The Agency reaffirmed its role in supporting investors, stating that business success directly contributes to the country’s economic development.
