Balgarianovinite.com Bulgarian director Javor Gardev presented the production The Bacchae on Friday evening at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus in Greece, where it was met with prolonged applause from the audience. The performance marked the beginning of the production’s summer tour in the country, which will include a total of 13 performances. The production will have its second premiere on July 11.

It is a co-production of the Athens Epidaurus Festival, the Ivan Vazov National Theatre in Sofia and the National Theatre of Northern Greece. Bulgarian actor Leonid Yovchev stars as Dionysus. The performance features Bulgarian and Greek actors, and the music is performed live by the British band The Tiger Lillies.
