Nov. 5-8: Double Exposure Film Festival
The theme of this year’s film festival from 100Reporters is “On the Record: Evidence in an Age of Doubt.” Head to Washington, D.C. to see how this year’s films answer the question “What happens to a democracy when the record itself is under assault, not only from those who manufacture doubt, but from the institutions once trusted to dispel it?” In addition to the film premieres, the DX Public Forum offers panels, workshops and Q&As.
Nov. 9-12: Web Summit
The “world’s premier tech conference” will again take place in Lisbon, Portugal. Educational masterclasses and roundtables will be available at the event, which will bring together experts from some of the world’s top companies to define “what’s next, offering deep insights, practical skills, and a clear path forward.” This year’s event features 17 tracks, including ones focused on new media, AI, cybersecurity, creative, policy and health.

Nov. 16-20: Leveraging the Promise of Biotechnology for Rare Disease Patients and Families Worldwide
The National Press Foundation is providing this week of free online training for professional journalists in any medium. The series will feature on-the-record briefings and Q&A sessions with top experts. Session topics will cover rare disease research on the African continent, AI-driven drug development, childhood genetic testing and screening and the need for more inclusive clinical trials. Journalists will also hear from leaders of global patient advocacy groups and veteran journalists in the field.
Nov. 17: Emotional Management and Stress Regulation After the Midterms
Reporting on the midterm elections can take a toll on journalists’ emotional and physical well-being. This session from PEN America and the U.S. Journalist Assistance Network in partnership with the Media Resilience Network will provide attendees with practical strategies for managing stress, recognizing signs of burnout, setting healthy boundaries, supporting colleagues and tending to your own well-being.
Nov. 17: How to Edit Data Stories in the Age of AI?
AI has made it more difficult to edit data-driven stories by producing more numbers faster, by people who may not know how to check them. Helena Bengtsson, an experienced data editor, will join the Global Investigative Journalism Network for this one-hour session built for those who work with data-based stories but do not necessarily have data skills themselves, as well as data journalists who want to learn how to edit their own work, or each other’s. Leave with a better understanding of what to ask about data sources, how to spot weak analysis, how to fact-check figures and visualizations, and what to watch for when AI has been used.
Nov. 17: How To Build a Brand Around Your Story
Great at writing about others but struggle to tell your own story? This one-hour session from the Online News Association will feature helpful insights and strategies from brand builder and storytelling coach Renee Frojo. Learn how to tell your story to reach new audiences, build audience loyalty and amplify your impact. “It’s not just important to help your work get seen—it’s important for the future of journalism,” ONA explains.
Nov. 17-18: JournalismAI Festival
Journalists, newsroom leaders and technologists will head to London to learn the latest on “what AI really means for publishers, in practice, not theory.” With a mix of fireside chats, roundtables and hands-on workshops, the schedule is designed to spark conversation and provide practical learning for attendees. Some of the confirmed topics so far include “How to build AI agent workflows for investigations,” “Reimagining journalism in the AI era: hopes and realities,” “Context is King: how to get the most from AI with context engineering” and “The people problem: AI adoption in newsrooms.”
Coming in December

ONA will sit down with The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Senior Director of Revenue Generation, Sarah Jarvis, and Senior Product Manager for Revenue, Harriet White, to discuss how they are building a sustainable news business despite a turbulent digital landscape. See real-world examples of ways to ramp up fundraising and introduce new subscription products as new revenue streams.
