Balgarianovinite.com Judges from seven courts in Smolyan Region will vote at the Smolyan District Court in the election of members of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) from the professional quota. This is stated in the voter list and the invitation to the general assembly of judges, provided by the Smolyan District Court.
A total of 27 judges are included on the voter list for Polling Station No. 21 – Smolyan Region. They are from the Regional Court and the Administrative Court, as well as from the regional courts in Smolyan, Devin, Madan, Zlatograd, and Chepelare.
The polling station will be set up in the Palace of Justice building in Smolyan.
The Smolyan Regional Court is prepared to provide the organizational and technical support needed for election day, Court President Petar Margaritov told BTA. According to him, the necessary arrangements will be made to ensure the smooth conduct of voting by the judges from the seven courts in the region.
The judges will elect six members of the Supreme Judicial Council from their quota. The general assembly of judges will take place on October 31 and November 7. The first part will be held in Sofia, and on November 7 voting will take place at the designated polling stations starting 8:00 a.m.
The deadline for nominations for SJC members from the judges’ quota is September 6.
The amendments to the Judicial System Act adopted by the National Assembly on June 26 set out the procedure for electing the new SJC. The Council has 25 members: 22 elective and three ex officio (the presidents of the two supreme courts and the prosecutor general). The elective members represent the three magistrate communities (judges, prosecutors, and investigating magistrates) in the SJC’s two chambers: Judges Chamber and Prosecutors Chamber.
