Balgarianovinite.com The Centre for Assisted Reproduction, the Bulgarian Drug Agency and Executive Agency Medical Supervision will remain stand-alone entities, Health Minister Katya Ivkova told reporters on Thursday. A functional analysis that was circulated in the media and included proposals for structural changes was essentially a “political PR stunt”, Ivkova said, adding that the functional analysis is not a final document.
Regional Health Inspectorates will not be closed but will become territorial directorates under the Health Ministry. The health inspectorates will no longer be able to independently award public procurement contracts, Ivkova explained regarding the changes proposed in the analysis.
Discussing emergency medical care, the minister said the idea is to merge ground and air emergency medical services so that there will no longer be reports of delays in providing emergency assistance. The management processes will be merged, but no centres or branches across the country will be closed, she added.
The Board of Directors of BulBio, the hard-up state-owned company that produces vaccines and sera, is set to be reduced from five members to three.
The aim of the proposed structural adjustments is to strengthen capacity at local level and create room for the specialized administration to work for all citizens, Minister Ivkova added.
