Fox News host Mark Levin celebrated President Donald Trump’s banning of Politico from the White House in an angry X screed Monday, and slammed the outlet’s “disgusting hit piece” on his ambassador aide stepson.
Levin’s stepson, David Milstein, serves as senior adviser to U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, and was the target of a Politico Playbook piece calling him “Huckabee’s ‘walking counterintel red flag.’”
“President Trump was right to ban Politico from the White House,” Levin’s post began. “And I want to tell you why, and about a specific situation this morning involving my stepson, David Milstein.”
“Today, on Yom Kippur, my family and I awakened to one of the most outrageous and disgusting hit pieces written by Politico’s Adam Wren. And I must briefly respond to this character-assassination,” Levin wrote.
The Politico piece accused the “influential and controversial senior adviser” of soliciting “cash gifts from Israeli citizens to celebrate his upcoming wedding.”
“David Milstein, who holds a top-secret security clearance, sent a Paperless Post wedding invitation on Sept. 16 soliciting ‘monetary wedding gift[s]’ in either ‘U.S. dollars or Israeli shekels’ along with a QR code,” Playbook reported.
On Saturday, hours after Playbook asked Milstein whether he had State Department and White House approval for the solicitation, Milstein sent out a revised note to invitees: “Unfortunately, our email/message intended only to respond to requests from family and close family friends who had asked us if we had a gift registry was unintentionally sent to the broader guest list. Please know we cannot accept gifts of any kind.”
Playbook cited an anonymous intelligence community member to write, “Milstein’s activities have raised concern among a number of officials, including within the CIA.”
“Another person familiar with the episode told Playbook it could be the ‘final straw’ for Milstein, who along with Huckabee, welcomed the convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard into the United States Embassy in Jerusalem last July,” the report said.
Levin accused Politico of going after Milstein because the aide was his stepson, adding, “Attacking him like Wren did this morning, weeks before his wedding and on Yom Kippur is truly contemptible.”
“David did not ‘solicit cash gifts from Israeli citizens to celebrate his upcoming wedding,’” Levin wrote, continuing:
David was asked by family members, who live all over the world and throughout the country, about gifts for his upcoming wedding and if he was registered anywhere. David responded to requests by sending an email-message that there was no registration for gifts and suggested an alternative option. The email-message was intended for family and close friends but went to the larger email list of guests. As soon as he realized it went to the larger list, literally in less than 48-hours, he sent another email making clear he would not and could not accept gifts of any kind from the larger group. It is that simple. He was not soliciting cash gifts from Israelis, as Wren sought a hook for his story.
“Wren then went to cherry-picked anonymous sources to create an entirely false narrative and impression to promote a non-existent controversy about David’s clearance, etc.,” Levin added. “It is a truly unconscionable thing to do, and he did it to further embellish his story, Wren also claims people are afraid of David because I’m his stepfather — according to more anonymous sources. This is pathetic like the rest of his hit piece.”
Levin — who has the president’s ear on U.S. policy toward Israel — has been a huge proponent of Trump’s war with Iran. He recently criticized the president of “bashing” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and “turning” on Israel by considering any ceasefire deals with Iran, and called on Trump to “finish” the Islamic regime.
