Balgarianovinite.com There has been growing investor interest in Stara Zagora and the surrounding region in recent months, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investment and Industry Alexander Pulev said at a meeting with Regional Governor Kaloyan Damyanov. “I can see that, through our joint efforts, the industrial zones and the wider economic ecosystem of Stara Zagora are now much more visible on the investment map,” Pulev said, quoted by the Ministry’s press service.
The two discussed the growing investment interest in the region, new opportunities for industrial development, and priority funding for Stara Zagora’s economic transformation.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that efforts to promote the region’s industrial development build on work undertaken during his previous tenure as Minister of Innovation and Growth. “Even then, we worked closely with the same team and maintained an ongoing dialogue with local authorities. We promoted the opportunities for EU funding available to small and medium-sized enterprises, and many companies in the region benefited from these programmes,” Pulev said.
He also highlighted the first programme of its kind to support industrial zones with EU funding, under which Industrial Park Zagore–Elenino is one of the beneficiaries.
According to Pulev, another strategic asset for the region is the former Stara Zagora airport. “We have held discussions with major strategic partners who have visited the site. We are considering various options depending on the level of interest and the investors’ own strategic plans,” he said, adding that there is very strong interest in the region’s industrialization.
“Stara Zagora has the potential to become the industrial heart of Bulgaria. The region has strong transport connectivity, a secure energy supply and, most importantly, its greatest asset – its people. We have educated young people here with an innovative spirit and mindset. We have all the necessary conditions to work together to develop the region,” Pulev said.
He stressed that achieving this will require a sustained partnership between the national government, local authorities, businesses and the wider community.
“We have secured significant financial resources for the industrialization and economic transformation of the region. Under the Just Transition Fund, nearly EUR 150 million will be directed to Stara Zagora and to creating new economic opportunities,” he said. According to Pulev, the funding can be used to develop industrial infrastructure and support projects that create sustainable jobs and new prospects for people in the region.
“The transformation must be managed wisely and responsibly. Our goal is to ensure that people have new opportunities for quality employment and professional development. That is why we are working to attract value-added investment and create a modern industrial environment,” Pulev said.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that Stara Zagora will remain one of the government’s key priorities in its policies for attracting investment and driving industrial transformation.
