Balgarianovinite.com The musical Rock Sensation: The Contract will be staged at the National Palace of Culture on Sunday night, the National Music Theatre reported. The, production based on an original story by writer and director Nikolay Yordanov, will take the audience on a journey through the golden years of rock and roll – from the 1950s to the present day.
The main character made a deal with the devil in order to obtain his talent. The story intertwines historical facts related to music, performers, bands, trends, and styles, and the history of mankind in a narrative that makes use of all numerous art forms with little restriction. Yordanov shared: “The story is inspired by one of the oldest legends, according to which, once upon a time, at a dusty crossroads, a poor musician made a deal with the devil himself and, in exchange for his soul, received his genius guitar skills. A talent with which he conquered the world.”
Soloists, a vocal group, ballet, and orchestra from the National Music Theatre will perform under the baton of Dimitar Kosev. A rock band was formed for the project, led by Nikolay Vodenicharov Nikeca and featuring Jamie Rashed, Denis Boyadjiev, Maria Anastasova, Misho Shishkov, Pepi Rangelov, Ivaylo Zvezdomirov, and Martin Profirov.
Edelina Kaneva, Director of the National Music Theatre, shared: ” I watched the show in Amsterdam and was left speechless. I can safely say that Rock Sensation: The Contract is not just a show but an event. There has never been a show like this in Bulgaria. The audience will experience a stunning journey, a combination of classical forms and the raw energy of rock music, travelling through time on the wings of iconic songs performed by legendary artists and recreated on stage through impressive costumes and original visualizations.”
After its performance in Sofia, the musical will embark on a European tour. In March, there will be performances in Brussels, Bremen, Ghent, Hasselt, and Rotterdam.
