Nearly EUR 83 Mln Planned for Green Technology in SMEs – Innovation Minister

Nearly EUR 83 million are planned for the introduction of green technology in micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises, Minister of Innovation and Digital Transformation Ivan Vasilev said at Sliven Future Forum 2026 here on Saturday. The meeting with businesses and local government representatives in the city was also attended by Minister of Economy, Investments and Industry Alexander Poulev, deputy ministers, and MPs from the region.
Vasilev specified that the funds can be used to purchase machinery, facilities, equipment, software, and intellectual property rights that support the adoption of green technologies and circular models of production and consumption.
Vasilev also announced that, according to data from the European Funds for Competitiveness Agency with the Innovation Ministry, Sliven Region includes 133 projects with grant funding totalling over EUR 9.8 million. Of these, 45 have been completed, with EUR 4.6 million disbursed, while 88 projects are currently underway.
Vasilev also emphasized the opportunities for Bulgarian companies to utilize artificial intelligence. He announced that the Brain++ supercomputer, part of the European EuroHPC network, is set to be built at Sofia Tech Park with an investment of over EUR 90 million. According to him, the infrastructure will feature 700 graphics cards, with half of the computing power available to Bulgarian companies and the remainder available for shared use by companies in the European Union. The goal is to ensure access to this infrastructure under clear rules so that entrepreneurs and researchers from across the country can use it.
Vasilev called on business representatives in Sliven Region to explore ways to apply artificial intelligence to boost productivity and create new companies. The Minister also urged local business representatives to take advantage of funding opportunities and to seek ways to increase productivity through technology and innovation.
