Balgarianovinite.com Nearly 6 million items of staple foods have been purchased by customers of Kaufland Bulgaria since the launch of the Care Basket initiative on June 8, implemented jointly with the government. The most purchased item among the 30 products offered at reduced prices is granulated sugar. Since the beginning of the campaign, customers have bought more than 3 million one-kilogram packages of sugar, with the highest demand recorded in Northeastern Bulgaria, Kaufland announced.
The top five most sought-after products also include yogurt, bread, sunflower oil, and boneless pork leg from the serviced meat counter.
The 15% price reduction applies to 30 products, with the most noticeable discounts being on boneless pork leg, white cheese, yellow cheese, and eggs.
The data also reveals clear regional preferences in consumer demand. In Sofia, compared with the rest of the country, the strongest interest is in eggs, fruits and vegetables, fresh milk, fresh sausages, and ground coffee. In Northeastern Bulgaria, the highest demand is for boneless pork leg, mixed minced meat, white cow’s cheese, table salt, and rice. Customers in Southwestern Bulgaria buy the most sunflower oil, bread, packaged baked goods, and margarine.
In Northwestern Bulgaria, among the most preferred products are yogurt and sunflower oil, and the region ranks second in the country in terms of purchases of vinegar. Southeastern Bulgaria stands out with the highest interest in boneless pork leg, while packaged beans and lentils are the least sought-after products in the region.
The Care”0Basket is a voluntary national initiative launched by the Bulgarian government together with major supermarket chains on June 8 to make essential food products more affordable during a period of inflation.
The campaign initially included eight major retailers, including Billa, Kaufland, Lidl, Metro, Fantastico, CBA, Minimart, and DAR, and was later expanded with additional chains.
