Balgarianovinite.com Nickolay Rashkov has been appointed as the new director of the men’s and women’s national teams of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Basketball Federation (BBF) said at a press conference on Thursday. The event also presented the Federation’s partnership with Greek sports equipment brand GSA.
Addressing the event, BBF President, Georgi Glouchkov, said: “In the last few months, we’ve had some positive news – the inclusion of younger people with exceptional vision. I’m talking about Nickolay Rashkov. We’re happy that today we can announce the new partnership with GSA, which I can say is a landmark event. We’ve had some very intense and emotionally charged days. There are events still to come that we’re looking forward to with great interest.”
Speaking at the conference, Rashkov said: “My main work is outside of basketball. I’m involved in several side businesses that are doing well. The reason I’m here now is that three years ago I had the imprudence to invest in youth basketball in Bulgaria, and that set a chain of events in motion that ultimately created the team around me. I grew up in a family that taught me to value the symbols of Bulgaria. I have great respect for the players and the entire staff of the national team”.
“Our involvement, along with our entire team, is entirely voluntary, and I believe that in the next cycle of the national teams, we can achieve three goals. The first is to improve working conditions for the entire coaching staff and the players. Second, raising the profile of both teams, and third – all players who play professional basketball have signed contracts, and their free time belongs to the clubs they play for. Every single club team struggles to allow these players to participate on the national team. Today we are also announcing a partnership with GSA, a company that has been in the sports equipment business for quite some time. The value of the entire partnership exceeds EUR 75,000. They will also provide equipment for the youth teams,” Rashkov added.
The Bulgarian men’s national team is set to host Norway on July 5 in the final match of Group B in EuroBasket 2029’s preliminary qualifiers. So far, the Bulgarians have two wins and one loss, leading the standings.
Tickets for the match against Norway, which will take place at Arena Botevgrad, will go on sale as early as Friday.
